Former coordinator for the Chinese School, and for the Chinese, French, and Japanese Departments at Middlebury, died on Saturday, October 15, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Former Language Schools professor Dr. Daniel F. Jourlait died peacefully, surrounded by his daughter, Claire, and son Marc, on August 3, 2022, in Paris, where he had been living since the summer of 2019 after living 40 years in Aix-en-Provence. He taught for many years in the Betty Ashbury Jones MA ’86 School of French during the 1970s and 1980s and served as director from 1987 to 1997.

Madeline Doane is completing a Spanish immersion program as a Kathryn Davis Fellow for Peace.
Middlebury has named Yaron Peleg as the new director of the School of Hebrew. He will begin his new position on September 1, succeeding Vardit Ringvald, who founded the program in 2008.
