Students at the  have the option of enrolling in a Sustainable Development Track. This interdisciplinary special track is comprised of two main components: direct-enroll courses at the University and the option of an internship in the field, coordinated by the School in Puerto Rico and supervised by a local leader, professional, or professor.  This track will give students the opportunity to engage with the topic of sustainable development in an interdisciplinary manner and may appeal to students interested in graduate studies in urban planning, public administration, environmental management, among others.

As stated in Sagrado’s description of its new Minor in Sustainable Development, Department of Business Administration, “the program provides interdisciplinary training and encourages the analysis of local and global problems from different perspectives. It focuses on exploring development studies with a sustainable perspective, with a systemic approach and with values of solidarity, justice, and peace.” The program is structured around UNESCO’s Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and the 2030 Agenda . For more information on Sagrado’s Program, please visit: 

Students not interested in enrolling in a track may opt to participate in our standard, direct-enrollment program.

University Courses 

Students will have the opportunity to take three or four courses alongside Puerto Rican students at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón or three courses and an internship. Courses offered include Introduction to Sustainable Development, Environmental Dimensions on Sustainable Development, Social Development, Economic Development, and Culture and Sustainable Development.

Courses offered vary each semester. All courses taken by School in Puerto Rico students must be fully in-person.

While at Sagrado, students will also take the Middlebury course, SPAN2401P Writing for Linguistic and Cultural Competence (0.5 MIDD UNITS), with a local professor.

Internships

Eligible students may have the option to work in institutions in San Juan such as ,  , and , among others.

Please note: An internship opportunity in one of these organizations or projects is not guaranteed. Internship assignments depend on the student’s interests and qualifications, and the organization’s specific needs at the time.  

Students interested in interning must verify that their home institutions will accept academic credit for an internship. General internship and research application procedures and deadlines will apply.
