Middlebury College faculty, students, and staff have access to a variety of new electronic resources.

Some resources are also available to users at Middlebury Institute of International Studies. These are marked with an asterisk (*).

Databases

  • : The largest newspaper article database in Japan, permitting keyword and date searches of 16 million articles and advertisements from more than 140 years of the newspaper, from its first edition in 1879 (Meiji 12) to today.
  • : Hosted on Applied Science Commons, this is a comprehensive database of gray literature focusing on the intersection of technology and environmental science, showcasing advancements in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and remote sensing for ecological monitoring and resource optimization. This is a continuously growing archive with coverage of over 1,000 organizations.
  • *: Essential resources for medical translators and writers. Home of Libro Rojo.
  • : Part two adds more than fifty thousand new titles of previously unavailable or inaccessible materials.
  • : An extension to our existing access, bringing our coverage closer to present day.
  • : Extensive database that provides online access to historical newspapers from nearly 60 locations in the U.S. and worldwide. 1690 to current.
  • : A collection of primary source documents spanning from Cold War migrations to modern displacement crises, covering over 100 countries, and featuring firsthand refugee and migrant accounts, with detailed reporting from charities, associations, pressure groups, governments, agencies such as CARE and UNICEF, and grassroots advocacy groups.
  • *: A database of genetic and molecular biology data for the model higher plant Arabidopsis thaliana. Data available from TAIR includes the complete genome sequence along with gene structure, gene product information, gene expression, DNA and seed stocks, genome maps, genetic and physical markers, publications, and information about the Arabidopsis research community.
  • : Create an account (click the “Create Account” button in the top right) using your Middlebury email address. A web-based text and data mining (TDM) tool that allows researchers to mine large sets of published content available to Middlebury through our existing ProQuest subscriptions.
  • : An extension to our existing access, bringing our coverage closer to present day.

  • Duke University Press
    • : This collection of 129 titles intermingles key areas of environmental study with a wide variety of disciplines, challenging traditional boundaries of environmental studies to reflect a growing overlap of fields across the humanities disciplines.
    • : A collection of 277 titles, many of which are international and intersectional, bringing subjects such as Black studies, disability studies, fiction, and politics into conversation with queer identity.
  • Edward Elgar:
    • The library has purchased access to the following Essentials collections: Public Administration and Public Policy, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Social Policy, Climate Change, Environmental Policy.
  • *MIT Press 2025 Trade Collection:
    • This year’s Trade Collection features over 100 general interest titles, including volumes in the popular MIT Press Essential Knowledge Series. Middlebury also has term access to the Trade Collection Backfiles until 7/1/2026.

  • : Films and documentaries in many languages from around the world. With a strong emphasis on Latin American and Spanish-language content, the platform also includes Asian, African, European, and North American selections, as well as collections focusing on history, travel, nature, wildlife, and more.
  • Docuseek collections
    • : A classic selection of films from Women Make Movies, the world’s leading distributor of independent films by and about women.
    • : A collection of documentaries that explore the untold stories of our time, building bridges between cultures and providing unique perspectives by exploring social, political, environmental, and spiritual issues to bring provocative and entertaining stories to the screen.
