On December 1, Belarus announced its commitment to eliminate large stockpiles of highly-enriched Uranium at a meeting of the in Kazakhstan. The international news agency Associated Press and national U.S. media such as , and looked to the Monterey Institute’s for information regarding the amount of nuclear materials currently held by Belarus. According to the 2010 estimate made by CNS specialists, Belarus has hundreds of pounds of weapons-grade uranium.
