Monterey Institute faculty members Kenneth Coleman and Raymond Zilinskas of the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies were recently referenced in an article about Botox as a bio-weapon. The story, headlined “Officials fear toxic ingredient in Botox could become terrorist tool,” was featured by and ran in and on MSNBC.com, among others. Coleman and Zilinskas co-authored a study exploring the use of Botox, one of the world’s deadliest poisons, as a weapon for terrorists. Coleman, a senior fellow for the Chemical and Biological Weapons Nonproliferation Program (CBWNP), tells The Washington Post: “It is the only profit-making venture for terrorists that can also potentially yield a weapon of mass destruction.” According to the Monterey County Herald, Zilinskas, director of CBWNP, and Coleman prepared the report over fourteen months for the Department of Defense.
