MIIS alum Marik Von Rennenkampff writes Op-Ed for The Hill
MIIS NPTS ‘15 graduate Marik Von Rennenkampff writes op-ed for The Hill on .
In the article, Von Rennenkampff opines that “the Trump administration’s policy of ‘maximum pressure’ on Iran hinges on a particularly flawed set of assumptions regarding Iranian capabilities, decision-making and strategic priorities.” Especially misguided is the administration’s focus on halting Iranian governmental support of armed “proxy” groups. The approach of the administration towards these groups ignores the degree to which both the Iranian regime and large swaths of the pro-American Iranian public view them not as a bid for Iranian regional dominance, but rather as a necessity for national security.
Marik von Rennenkampff (NPTS ‘15) served as an analyst with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, as well as an Obama administration appointee at the U.S. Department of Defense.
