CTEC Director Jason Blazakis quoted by the Center for Public Integrity
Director of CTEC Jason Blazakis was quoted by The Center for Public Integrity in a recent article titled “.”
The article explores the recent spate of state-level terrorism bills sponsored by a network of far-right wing think tanks. Opposing legislators and civil rights activists state these bills serve only to target Muslim Americans.
In particular, the article takes a closer look at “Andy’s Law,” the proponents of which claims it “closes a loophole in federal law that requires there be an international link to the crime in order to prosecute it as terrorism.”
In response to this claim, Director Blazakis stated that while the loophole exists, he disagrees with the bill’s approach of moving the designation and prosecution of terrorists from the federal to the state level. He commented that his “concern is that the next step states could take is that they take it upon themselves to start designating groups [as terrorists] the federal government hasn’t.”
