CTEC Director and Middlebury Institute professor Jason Blazakis was recently quoted in a Fodor's Travel article regarding travel in the Middle East in light of recent U.S.-Iran tensions.
The Fodor’s Travel (Fodors.com) article lists countries and risks associated with possibly traveling to them, especially in light of tensions between the U.S. and Iran, which spiked after the U.S. military’s killing of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force (IRGC-QF) General Qassem Soleimani. Professor Blazakis clarified, “After the death of Soleimani, it is prudent for tourists to avoid travel to countries listed at a [U.S.] State Department threat warning level of 3 and 4. Tourists should avoid going to Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Libya, and Somalia.”
