CTEC Director and Middlebury Institute Professor Jason Blazakis was recently quoted by Alexander Nazaryan in a Yahoo News article titled “A New York lawmaker wants to treat white supremacists like foreign jihadists. Is this the solution, or a new war on terror?”
Professor Blazakis argued in favor of creating a federal law criminalizing domestic terrorism, stating that white nationalist groups should be treated as harshly by U.S. law as transnational syndicates.
He further explained:
“It matters in terms of the sentencing, it matters in terms of the symbolism…If you’re brown in America, you’re more likely to be labelled a terrorist than if you’re white.”
