Australia’s award-winning company, one step at a time like this, comes to Middlebury for a special arts exchange. In this talk, they will discuss some of their various international projects and the processes they use to make their work that employs an “expanded notion of theatre.” Led by visiting artists Suzanne Kersten, Clair Korobacz, and Julian Rickert.

About the company:
one step at a time like this create works that are location-responsive and gently participatory, often combining digital media with live performance. Their works are recognised internationally for inventive and outstanding approaches to place and audience-centric theatre. The company was selected as the representative of site-specific theatre world-wide by American Theater Wing in its documentary series ‘Latest Trends in Theatre’. Engaging the co-authoring activity of the audience is a key element. one step works have been commissioned by Vivid Sydney, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Sadler’s Wells Theatre, Situations UK, Seoul Performing Arts Festival, Singapore International Festival of Arts, Melbourne Festival, Arts House, and London Festival Cultural Olympiad, as well as with Richard Jordan Productions (UK) and Intimate Spectacle (AU).
