MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Ioana Uricaru, assistant professor of film and media culture, has received a major prize from the Romanian National Film Center’s annual production support competition. Uricaru will receive €656,000 (approx. $742,000) – the largest award among the 56 film projects funded – for her film Lemonade, which is currently in development, and will be produced by Cristian Mungiu’s .

This is the second significant grant Uricaru has received recently. Earlier this year, she was awarded the , a highly competitive fellowship for filmmakers, which she will begin this fall.

Mobra Films gives the following synopsis of Lemonade: Mara, a 30-year old Romanian woman has recently moved to the US with Dragoş, her 9 year old son, after marrying Daniel, an American construction worker whom she has only met a few months ago. The film follows her through a series of revealing encounters during one day.
