Poet, Scientists to Join in
Presentation on Cosmic Evolution Jan. 16
MIDDLEBURY, VT — Robert Pack, a
poet, Middlebury College professor emeritus of English, and former
director of the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, will join
Middlebury professors Sallie Sheldon of the biology department and
Rich Wolfson of the physics department in a joint presentation titled
“Cosmic Evolution: from the Big Bang to Life and Beyond
” at
4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16 in Room 216 of Bicentennial Hall on
Bicentennial Way off College Street (Route 125). Refreshments will be
served at 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Subtitled “A Tale Told in Poetry and
Science,” the presentation will feature brief accounts of the latest
scientific understandings of the evolution of the universe and of
life, interspersed with Packs readings of his original poems on
cosmic and biological evolution. Pack and Wolfson, and Pack and
Sheldon, have teamed before in joint presentations of science and
poetry. This time is the first that all three have joined
together.
Robert Pack will also give a poetry
reading on Jan. 18 at 4:30 in Mitchell Green Lounge in McCullough
Student Center on Old Chapel Road off South Main Street (Route
30).
