Pierre Manent to Lecture on
“Philosophy and the History of Political Forms” on Oct.
17
MIDDLEBURY, Vt.Pierre Manent,
of the Centre de Recherches Politiques Raymond Aron in Paris, will
give a lecture titled “Philosophy and the History of Political Forms”
at Middlebury College at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17 in the library
of the Geonomics Center for International Studies on Hepburn Road off
College Street (Route 125). Manent is a visiting faculty member at
Boston College this month. The lecture will be given in English, and
is free and open to the public.
Manent is the author of a number of
books, including “An Intellectual History of Liberalism,” “Democracy
and Its Discontents,” and “The City of Man.” Of this last book, Paul
Nelson of the Middlebury College political science faculty has said,
“It is a brilliant successor and complement to Leo Strauss
masterpiece, Natural Right and History, published nearly
50&Բ;&Բ;.”
