College Trustees Adopt Resolution
to Proceed with Plans for Library Construction
MIDDLEBURY, Vt.—The Middlebury
College board of trustees passed a resolution at its fall meeting on
Oct. 21 that authorizes College officials to proceed with planning
for the construction of a new College library to be located on the
eastern edge of the campus on Storrs Avenue. The resolution passed
unanimously.
The CollegeÂ’s former science
center currently occupies much of the site for the library project.
The board accepted the design for the project that was presented to
the building and grounds committee of the board on Oct. 20 by the
architects for the project, Gwathmey Siegel & Associates. The
architectÂ’s plans require the removal of the old science
facility to allow for construction of the new library.
The science facility has been
unoccupied since 1999 when Bicentennial Hall became the new home for
the CollegeÂ’s science programs.
The budget for the library project
was set by the trustees at $40 million.
