Pianist Garrick Ohlsson to Perform at Middlebury College
Center for the Arts on April 16

MIDDLEBURY, Vt.?Pianist Garrick Ohlsson will
perform at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 16 in the Concert Hall in the
Middlebury College Center for Arts. The program will include Johann
Sebastian Bach’s “Goldberg” Variations.
Ohlsson has performed at concert halls in major
cities across the United States, as well as in Europe and Asia. Born
in White Plains, N.Y., Ohlsson began attending the Juilliard School
at the age of 13. He has won prestigious awards for his work,
including the Avery Fisher Prize in 1994.
Describing a performance by Ohlsson, The New York
Times declared, “his playing was fully expressive, that cumulative
layering of controlled power turning grandiosity to grandeur.” The
Palm Beach Post stated, “Ohlsson’s technical mastery is a marvel. The
most difficult passages tumble from his fingers like leaves in
ܳٳܳ.”
Best known as being one of the world’s leading
exponents of the music of Chopin, Ohlsson has recorded the complete
solo works of this composer for the Arabesque recording label. He has
also gained recognition for performing works by Mozart, Beethoven,
and Schubert, as well as music of the Romantic era. His repertoire is
wide and eclectic, ranging from Haydn to 20th century masters, and he
has appeared twice on National Public Radio’s “Prairie Home
dz貹ԾDz.”
Tickets for this performance are $9 general
admission and $7 for senior citizens. A pre-performance brunch at
1:30 p.m. will be held at Rehearsals Cafe in the Center for the Arts.
