Middlebury College Musical Players to Perform
“T&Բ;Գٲپ”
The Middlebury College Musical Players
will perform “The Fantasticks” on Nov. 20-22 in the
McCullough Student Center on Old Chapel Road off South Main Street
(Route 30). “The Fantasticks” is the fourth annual production
by the Musical Players, a student organization.
Composed by Harvey Schmidt with a script
and lyrics by Tom Jones, “The Fantasticks” is the longest
running musical in theatrical history. Alternately touching and
hysterical, the show tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers,
determined to be together despite their parents’ dissent. They
are unaware, however, that this feud between the families is a
fabrication to trick them into marriage. The score is both beautiful
and comic, including the songs “Try to Remember” and
“PԳ&Բ;&Բ;鲹徱.”
Performances of “The Fantasticks”
will take place at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov.
21. On Sunday, Nov. 22 a matinee performance will be held at
2 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, and $3 for children, students,
and senior citizens. Tickets will be on sale at the door before
each performance and at the Student Activities Office in the McCullough
Student Center from Nov. 11-20. For more information, contact
the Musical Players’ student director, Anna Benvenuto, at 802-443-6545.
The show features Kirk German and Amanda
O’Keefe as the young lovers and George Young Warner as the dashing
El Gallo. Cameron Brown and Tyler Beebe play the plotting parents,
Sarah Garland and David Mendelson add their comedic signatures
as the out-of-work actors, and Stuart Peery rounds out the cast
as the ever-present Mute. The show is directed by Anna Benvenuto
and Erin Branch, stage managed by Jennifer Masiak, and designed
by Thomas Marks. “The Fantasticks” features the musical
talent of Whitney Dorne on piano.
“The Fantasticks” is presented
through special arrangement with and all authorized performance
materials are supplied by Music Theatre International, 421 West
54th St., New York, NY 10019.
