The Geonomics Center for International Studies
at Middlebury College to Host Series of Lectures on Foreign Affairs
and Finance in October
Middlebury College’s Geonomics Center for International
Studies will host a series of three lectures and a roundtable
discussion on economics, finance and foreign affairs from Oct.
7-23. All events, except for the lecture on Oct. 13, will be in
the library at the Geonomics Center on Hillcrest Road off College
Street (Route 125). The lecture on Oct. 13 will be in Kirk Alumni
Center on Route 30. The events are free and open to the public.
Walker Connor, a visiting professor of political
science at Middlebury College, will give the first lecture, “Nationalism
in Post-National Western Europe” at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 7.
On Oct. 13 at 4:30 p.m., Aleksa Djilas, a
former fellow at the Russian Research Center at Harvard University,
will give a talk, “Kosovo Through Serbian
Eyes.” Djilas is the author
of “The Contested Country: Yugoslav Unity and Communist Revolution,
1919-1953” and the forthcoming “Yugoslavia: Dictatorship
Ի&Բ;پԳٱپDz.”
Jan Svejnar, a professor of economics at the University
of Michigan, will speak on “Economies in Transition: Comparing
China, Russia and Central Europe” at 12 p.m. on Oct. 19.
A roundtable discussion, “The
Changing Environment of Global Finance and Preparing Yourself
for It,” will take place at 4:30 p.m.
on Oct. 23. The participants include Patrick
Durkin of Donaldson Lufkin Jenrette; Jeff Fisher of Bemos Investment
Advisors; Lisa Giuffra de Diaz of Goldman Sachs; and John Walderon
of Bear Stearns.
